Look, y'all. Before I start this music review, I have got to confess. Don't judge me, okay? I need to get this off my chest.
I have a music addiction. It's serious. It's a problem. The majority of the money I don't have is spent on music. The majority of the time I waste is spent listening to and downloading music and semi-stalking my favorite artists. And, people, I'm telling you, it's a tough job. My taste in music is....eclectic, I guess, so, I listen to everything you can think of, from country to alternative to hip-hop to pop, everyone from Andrew Belle to Aer to One Direction to G-Eazy to Justin Bieber. And one person who's always made songs that never fail to shoot right to the top of my favorites list is none other than Sammy Adams, the hot, talented rapper from Boston.
I've been following him for as long as I can remember...way back to the I Hate College days (so long ago, right?). He's released a slew of new music since then, Boston's Boy and the Homecoming EP and a bunch of mixtapes and singles, and it's all been, well, fantastic. Seriously. So, you can imagine why I was excited when I found out last week that he had released a FREE full-length album. I downloaded it immediately, and fell swiftly in love with it as soon as I gave it a listen.
Wizzy is the perfect blend of everything that makes Sammy an amazing artist. It's got the fizzy, bubbly, club-ready pop songs of his that we've come to love, interspersed with the harder, make-you-wanna-bang-your-head-around rap tracks that showcase Sammy's talent as a rapper. His lyricism is the best I've ever heard it-- he's got some great little puns and wordplays that are so sly and understated that you'll miss them if you aren't listening closely. This album is basically everything you want out of one of your favorite artists-- growth. It's amazing how much he's grown since the days of Just Sayin' and Driving Me Crazy (not that those aren't still awesome). Out of the 11 tracks on the album, there are a couple that are just okay, but I don't want to let those few overshadow the truth about this album...it really is pretty damn fantastic.
Best tracks: Back on Tracks; Answers; Go Get It; The Comeback; Good Life (feat. Collie Buddz)
Rosa rating: ****/ 5 stars
